Delaware State senior Alonzo Sims Jr. was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, according to a May 6 announcement from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
This recognition highlights Sims Jr.’s recent performance at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational, where he won gold in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.85 seconds, which is currently the best in the conference.
The award comes as part of weekly honors that also saw Howard University sophomore Tarike Lavine earn Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. The announcement included mention of other notable performances, such as Ja’Mari Manson from Delaware State finishing second in the high jump at Princeton after clearing 2.06 meters.
Sims Jr., a senior from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, has contributed significantly to Delaware State’s track and field program throughout his collegiate career. His latest achievement adds to his list of accolades and reflects continued excellence on behalf of his team.
As athletes continue their outdoor season, these weekly honors serve as motivation for further strong performances leading up to championship events.
