Delaware Hospital F/T Chronically ILL emerged as Kent County’s largest nursing home in the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility offered a total of 175 beds, surpassing the Kent County average for that period by 61 beds, and cared for an average of 74 residents over those months.

CMS rated Delaware Hospital F/T Chronically ILL at 2 out of 5 overall, which is lower than Delaware’s state nursing home average of 3.3.

Evergreen Post Acute ranked second in Kent County with 151 available beds, while Complete Care at Silver Lake, LLC|Cadia Rehabilitation Capitol was third with 120 beds as of Q1 2026.

Delaware Hospital F/T Chronically ILL accumulated $59,947 in fines and faced two penalties in the first quarter of 2026.

Kent County, Delaware, reported just one public nursing home overall.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate the country’s older adult population is growing, while younger age groups decline. From 2020 to 2024, Americans 65 and older rose by 13%, compared to a 1.7% decrease for those under 18. The U.S. older population has expanded significantly in the past 100 years, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A study published in 2021 found that about half of this group, or roughly 28 million people, might require long-term services and supports. The study also projects that over one-third could ultimately need nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
