Delaware State Hornets won against Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks 5-4 on Apr. 10, led by Michael Lane’s strong pitching performance.
The game was notable for Lane’s contribution on the mound, as he struck out 11 batters over six and two-thirds innings. He allowed four earned runs on ten hits and walked two. Sean Ely also pitched for Delaware State, throwing one and two-thirds scoreless innings without giving up a hit.
Offensively, Alec Rodriguez went one-for-three with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Jaryn Sample contributed by going one-for-two at the plate with two walks and an RBI. Jabril Bullock added to the effort with two hits in four at-bats including a double.
The Hornets first scored in the opening inning when Sample drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game after trailing early. After Maryland-Eastern Shore regained the lead, Delaware State responded in the third inning by scoring four runs—highlighted by Hassan Turner’s run-scoring single—to move ahead 5-3. The Hawks managed another run before Delaware State secured the win.
The teams will meet again tomorrow for game two of their three-game conference series.
