Delaware State falls short against South Carolina State despite rebounding edge

The Delaware State men’s basketball team was defeated by South Carolina State 61-59 in a home game on Monday. Despite out-rebounding the Bulldogs 33-28, the Hornets were unable to secure a win.

Jalen StClair led Delaware State with 13 points. Rahmir Moore contributed 12 points, and Ponce James added 10 points along with two steals. Cyril Obasogie pulled down a game-high eight rebounds for the Hornets.

Delaware State showed strength on the boards, collecting 11 offensive rebounds and scoring nine second-chance points. The team also held South Carolina State to just 38.1 percent shooting from the field. The Bulldogs managed only seven offensive rebounds and six second-chance points, while Delaware State recorded 22 defensive rebounds.

The Hornets started strong, building an early lead of 14-4 after a 7-0 run with just over sixteen minutes left in the first half. However, they lost momentum and trailed at halftime, 30-26.

In the second half, South Carolina State extended its advantage to six points before Delaware State responded with another 7-0 run to take a brief one-point lead with just over twelve minutes remaining. The Bulldogs regained control late in the game and outscored Delaware State by three points down the stretch to secure the victory.

Delaware State’s bench contributed significantly in the second half, accounting for one-third of their total points.
