The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships resumed on February 23, 2026, after a two-hour delay caused by a snowstorm in Virginia Beach. All eight participating institutions competed for the championship title on Day 2.
The Delaware State Hornets stood out during the second day of competition by earning seven gold medals and setting new records at various levels, including school, conference, HBCU, and personal bests in both men’s and women’s events.
Christopher Johnson led the men’s team with a strong performance in the weight throw, achieving first place with a mark of 17.12 meters. This result broke the Delaware State University (DSU) school record and secured his second gold medal of the championships.
Freshman Nanjo Levec made an impact by scoring 4,985 points in the men’s heptathlon, breaking another DSU school record.
Former MEAC champion Marian Drazan won the mile run with a time of 4:09.29, finishing ahead of last year’s MEAC Outstanding Athlete of the Year from Norfolk State.
Ian Cain, named this year’s Track Athlete of the Week, took first place in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.76 after coming from behind in the race.
In other results for Delaware State’s men’s team, Lekan Sotonwa finished fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:57.13. Drazan followed closely behind in fifth place at 14:59.10.
The relay team consisting of Jenerette, Sims, Willis, and Phillips completed the men’s Distance Medley Relay in third place with a time of 3:14.76. Their performance helped secure second place overall for Delaware State at these championships—marking their highest finish since 1987.
