The Delaware State Hornets softball team lost to the South Carolina State Bulldogs by a score of 3-1 on May 9.
The game was marked by strong defensive efforts from both teams, but the Hornets were unable to overcome an early deficit. The loss brings Delaware State’s record to 28-18 for the season.
Kaylanie Rodriguez started as pitcher for Delaware State and took the loss, while Kristin White provided relief with one shutout inning, allowing no hits or walks and striking out one batter. Brylin McCray contributed an RBI during a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning, which accounted for the Hornets’ only run of the game. Despite this effort, neither team scored after that point.
Delaware State’s most productive inning was the fourth when they scored their sole run. Throughout the game, Hornet pitchers faced 32 batters from South Carolina State, giving up ten ground balls and six fly balls while recording five strikeouts. Offensively, Delaware State drew four walks against South Carolina State pitching.
McCray led at the plate with her RBI performance as Delaware State looks ahead to future matchups.
