Delaware State Hornets fall to Coppin State Eagles 11-10 in close game

The Delaware State Hornets lost to the Coppin State Eagles 11-10 on Mar. 29 after holding a late lead in Baltimore, Maryland.

The game was significant for the Hornets as they were unable to secure the win despite taking a 9-8 advantage into the seventh inning. The result leaves Delaware State with a record of 10-16 overall and 3-6 in conference play.

Kristin White took the loss for Delaware State. Karly Cain led the offense, going two-for-three with a double, three runs batted in, and a walk. Nevaeh Terrell also had two hits including a double and drove in two runs. Mi’Shon King contributed with one hit—a triple—in two at-bats.

The Hornets began their comeback from an early six-run deficit by scoring three runs in the second inning, highlighted by Cain’s two-RBI double. They narrowed Coppin State’s lead further with two more runs in the third inning and added another run in the fifth before taking control with a three-run sixth inning capped by Terrell’s double.

Delaware State expanded its lead to 10-8 after an RBI single from Cain but could not hold off Coppin State, which scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to win.

Other notable performances included Destiny Mitchell stealing two bases and Delaware State hitters going five-for-sixteen with runners in scoring position. The team drew five walks during Sunday’s contest.

Looking ahead, Delaware State will host Chestnut Hill for a home doubleheader on Tuesday, March 31.
