The Delaware State Hornets defeated the Norfolk State Spartans 9-8 on May 8, with Angie Ordonez collecting four runs batted in to help lead her team to victory.
The game was notable as Delaware State overcame an early five-run deficit. Kristin White earned the win out of the bullpen, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing three earned runs on four hits, while walking two and striking out three.
Ordonez made a significant impact at the plate by going 1-for-2 with a double and four RBI. Karly Cain also contributed offensively, finishing the game 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Nevaeh Terrell added one hit in four at-bats, including a double that drove in another run for Delaware State.
After falling behind 5-0, Delaware State began their comeback in the third inning when Terrell’s RBI double put them on the board. The Hornets tied the score at five during a fourth-inning rally highlighted by Ordonez’s three-run double. Norfolk State briefly regained a two-run lead before Delaware State surged ahead in the fifth inning with another four-run burst that included Mianna Lopez Del Haro’s two-run fly out.
Game notes indicate Cain had three hits for Delaware State while Ordonez led all players with four RBI. The team’s most productive inning was the fifth, scoring four runs. The Hornets finished 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position and drew five walks from opposing pitchers.
Looking ahead, Delaware State is scheduled to face Coppin State later that day in their final game of Day Two of the MEAC tournament.
