The Delaware State Hornets softball team defeated the North Carolina Central Eagles 3-1 on April 12, breaking a scoreless tie in the late innings to complete a series sweep.

This win improves Delaware State’s record to 18-16 and demonstrates their ability to perform under pressure. The victory was decided in the sixth inning when sophomore Zaelyn Harding hit a bases-clearing triple, giving the Hornets all three of their runs for the game.

Junior pitcher Kristin White earned her fifth win of the season, pitching seven innings while allowing one run on seven hits. White also struck out six batters and walked only one. Harding led at the plate, going one for three with three runs batted in from her key triple.

The Hornets’ pitching staff limited North Carolina Central to no hits in four opportunities with runners in scoring position. Over the course of facing 29 Eagles hitters, Delaware State pitchers induced three ground balls and twelve fly balls while recording six strikeouts.

Delaware State will next host Lincoln University for a mid-week doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday, April 15th at noon and again at 2:00 PM.
