Delaware State Hornets softball defeats Morgan State Bears 6-4 for series sweep

The Delaware State Hornets softball team defeated the Morgan State Bears 6-4 on Apr. 4, completing a series sweep in Dover, Delaware.

The win was led by Kristin White, who struck out eight batters over five innings while allowing just one run and two hits. Kaylanie Rodriguez also contributed from the pitching circle with 1.2 shutout innings, giving up no hits and striking out two.

Delaware State began scoring early, putting four runs on the board in the first inning. Mi’Shon King drove in a run with a single during that rally. The Hornets extended their lead to 5-0 in the second inning after an RBI single by Rodriguez. Morgan State narrowed the gap later in the game but could not overcome Delaware State’s early advantage.

Mianna Lopez provided offensive power for Delaware State with two extra-base hits, while Karly Cain went two-for-three at the plate with a triple and an RBI. The Hornets recorded nine hits compared to six for Morgan State and went five-for-nine with runners in scoring position.

Delaware State pitchers faced thirty-five hitters during the game, recording ten strikeouts along with five ground ball outs and six fly ball outs. The team’s next games are scheduled as a doubleheader against Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, April 8th at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
