The Delaware State Hornets won both games of a doubleheader against the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks on April 25, taking victories by scores of 11-0 and 4-3.
The results are significant for the Hornets as they continue their season with strong performances in both pitching and hitting. The wins add to their record and set up momentum heading into their final regular season game.
In the first game, Kristin White pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing only two hits while striking out six batters. Mi’Shon King contributed offensively with a home run and an RBI. Annalisse Santana added a double and two RBIs, while Karly Cain went three-for-three at the plate. The Hornets scored three runs in the first inning, highlighted by Mianna Lopez Del Haro’s two-run single. They added runs in subsequent innings, including five in the fifth inning from key hits by Santana and Jaylyn Slater.
Game notes from the opener indicate that Delaware State out-hit Maryland-Eastern Shore nine to two and performed well with runners in scoring position. White faced twenty batters over seven innings, allowing just two walks.
In game two, Angie Ordonez led Delaware State’s offense with a home run and two RBIs. King also had a productive day at the plate with a double and walk, while Destiny Mitchell added another double. After falling behind early, Delaware State took control in the second inning with two runs before Ordonez’s sixth-inning homer expanded their lead to 4-1. Although Maryland-Eastern Shore scored twice late in the game, Delaware State held on for the win.
Both Mitchell and King stole two bases each during Saturday’s second game as part of five total team steals for Delaware State pitchers who faced twenty-nine batters.
Looking ahead, Delaware State will play its final regular season game against UMES on Sunday at noon.
