The Delaware State Hornets softball team won both games of a doubleheader against the Morgan State Bears on April 3, with strong pitching and timely hitting at home in Dover.
These victories improve the Hornets’ record to 11-16 overall and 4-6 in conference play. The wins are significant as they give Delaware State momentum heading into the final game of the series.
In the first game, Kristin White pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits, walking six, and striking out nine batters. Mianna Lopez Del Haro contributed offensively by going 1-for-1 with a home run and an RBI. Allyson Fonollosa added a double and an RBI, while Zaelyn Harding collected two hits. The Hornets scored in four different innings and did not relinquish their lead after Destiny Mitchell crossed home plate in the first inning. Delaware State’s pitchers held Morgan State to zero hits with runners in scoring position during this matchup.
The second game saw Delaware State’s offense produce thirteen hits for an 8-2 victory. Destiny Mitchell led off with a double and scored on Karly Cain’s sacrifice fly to give the Hornets an early advantage. Kaylanie Rodriguez and Nevaeh Terrell each recorded hits to help sustain pressure on Morgan State’s defense throughout the contest. After Morgan State tied things up by scoring runs in the third and fourth innings, Delaware State responded with several key hits that broke open the game.
The teams will conclude their series on Saturday, April 4th at 11:00 A.M., when Delaware State hosts Morgan State for one more contest.
