The Delaware State University men’s and women’s track and field teams achieved several record-breaking performances at the Princeton Sam Howell meet on April 4.
The event saw standout achievements, with Marian Drazan setting a new Delaware State University record in the 5000 meters, finishing second overall with a time of 14:30.23. Lekan Sotonwa also broke a school record in the same event, crossing the line shortly after Drazan with a time of 14:43.95.
Freshman Tori Willis Jr made his mark by recording the top-ranked time in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for the season in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 52.28 seconds to place third overall. Alonzo Sims Jr finished just behind Willis Jr., securing fourth place.
In sprint events, Anai Burney-Green finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.50 seconds, outperforming competitors from Lehigh and Saint Joseph’s universities. The relay team composed of Keith Jenerette, Alonzo Sims Jr., Jonah Sydney, and Sage Phillips took fourth place in the 4×400 relay.
Other notable performances included Tori Willis Jr placing fifth in the 100-meter dash (10.65 seconds), Messai Maynor earning eighth place finishes in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, Anai Burney-Green coming ninth in the 100 meters, and Jaquan Johnson taking tenth place finishes in both sprints.
These results highlight continued progress for Delaware State’s track program as they compete regionally.
