Delaware State women’s tennis falls to Drexel in close match

Delaware State University’s women’s tennis team was defeated by Drexel University 5-2 in a match held on February 21. Drexel secured the doubles point at the start of the contest, putting pressure on Delaware State early.

Freshmen Maite Bou Safont and Alba Benedito earned victories for Delaware State in singles competition. Bou Safont won against B. Ibrahim with scores of 6-1, 6-3, while Benedito overcame O. Chowgule 6-3, 6-3.

Other matches were closely contested. Senior Lucia Casas Blas lost at No. 2 singles after a third-set tiebreak with final scores of 6-7, 7-6, 10-7. Sophomore Sia Mahajan also pushed her opponent to three sets but ultimately fell short, losing 6-3, 0-6, 9-7.

The Hornets will next play Towson University on March 7.
