The Delaware State women’s tennis team lost 2–5 to Howard University in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match at the Southeast Tennis & Learning Center in Washington, D.C., according to an April 16 announcement. The Hornets started strong by winning two out of three doubles matches and securing the opening point.

The match was significant for Delaware State as it demonstrated their competitiveness in doubles play against a conference rival. Senior Lucia Casas Blas and freshman Alba Benedito won their doubles match 6–4, while freshmen Hannah Watkins and Maite Bou Safont added another victory with a 6–1 result. These wins gave the Hornets an early advantage heading into singles competition.

In singles, Casas Blas earned another point for Delaware State by defeating Howard’s top player Imani Jean with scores of 6–1, 5–7, and 6–1. Despite this effort, Howard claimed five of the six singles matches overall, including two straight-set victories at the lower end of the lineup.

The results reflect both strengths and challenges for Delaware State as they continue their season. The Hornets will look to recover from this loss when they host Morgan State on April 7 at home.

As the season progresses, each conference matchup provides opportunities for players to build experience ahead of future contests.
