Hornets enter 2026 MEAC softball tournament as second seed

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced on April 28 that the field for the 2026 MEAC Softball Championship has been finalized, with Howard University taking the top seed after finishing conference play with an 18-3 record.

The announcement matters to fans and teams as it sets the matchups for one of the most important events in MEAC softball, determining which team will earn a spot in postseason play.

Howard University enters the tournament with a 25-17 overall record and will receive a first-round bye. The Bison are scheduled to face the winner of the No. 4 versus No. 5 game at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6.

Delaware State secured the No. 2 seed after achieving a 26-16 overall record and going 15-6 in conference games. The Hornets also receive a first-round bye and are set to open their tournament run at 8 p.m. on May 6 against whoever wins between the third and sixth seeds.

South Carolina State finished third in conference play with a turnaround season (12-9) and will take on Coppin State, which holds an overall record of eight wins and twenty-five losses this year, at 2 p.m. Norfolk State earned fourth place (22-19 overall;12-9 MEAC) and faces Morgan State—who finished ninth in conference play—in the opening game at11a.m.on May6.

The Delaware State Hornets beat Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks 3-1 after leading from the first inning. Rhyannon Stanley pitched all seven innings for Delaware State. The team will next compete at the MEAC Softball Tournament.
