Sussex County ranked second in state for resident earnings in 2017

Sussex County ranked second among counties in Delaware by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Sussex County residents was an inflation-adjusted $29,758 per year. Sussex County had 86,322 households in 2017, with a population of 215,551.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was New Castle County. New Castle County's median income was $33,696 per year after adjusting for inflation – $3,938 more than Sussex County. It had 202,654 households in 2017 and a population of 555,036.

Kent County had the lowest annual resident income among counties in Delaware, with a median income of only $28,873 per year. That was $885 less than the median income in Sussex County at the time. Kent County had 63,381 households in 2017 and a population of 173,145.
