Delaware State sophomore Valerie Ashamu was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement on Apr. 1.
The recognition comes after Ashamu broke the Delaware State record in the high jump during her performance at the Raleigh Relays. She achieved a mark of 1.72 meters, which is also noted as the best leap in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference this season.
Ashamu’s accomplishment placed her seventh overall in the event and highlights her development as a standout athlete for Delaware State.
This achievement brings attention to Delaware State’s track and field program and underscores its competitiveness within collegiate athletics.
