Bayhealth collaborated with Capital School District to once again offer free electrocardiogram (EKG) screenings for high school students, ages 15 and older, at Super Senator Day.

Bayhealth screened 76 students and performed nine EKG screenings on site. An EKG is a five-minute, non-invasive test to help detect an underlying heart condition that could result in sudden cardiac arrest. If necessary, Bayhealth also offers an echocardiogram (echo), a test that more closely examines heart function. Three students were identified as needing this follow-up test.

"Capital School District has partnered with Bayhealth in an effort to demonstrate our commitment to serving the needs of the whole child as they attend our schools and live in our communities. We encourage parents and students to take advantage of this life-saving opportunity,” said Superintendent of Capital School District Dr. Vilicia Cade.

The screenings are free to students thanks to donations made by Dover Capital City Rotary Club, Retired United States Air Force Colonel George Chabbott, and C.F. Schwartz Toyota through the Bayhealth Foundation.

“We are thankful for the collaboration between Capital School District and Bayhealth and for the opportunity made possible by generous donations to offer life-saving testing, free of charge to students in the Capital School District,” said Bayhealth Foundation President Lindsay Rhodenbaugh.
